On 11 June, Baroness Joanna Shields joined the UN Secretary General, Lucy Liu and others to launch a major new international development fund to End Violence Against Children. The Fund will work in partnership with the WePROTECT Global Alliance to deliver world-leading capacity building targeting the sexual exploitation of children online.
The WePROTECT Global Alliance is also advocating for stronger national child protection policies worldwide. In New York, Baroness Shields also launched the new WePROTECT Global Alliance strategy, which sets out how the initiative will work towards a further global summit in 2017.
Baroness Shields said: “The horrific global crime of online child sexual exploitation is one that challenges our very humanity and must be eradicated. The WePROTECT Global Alliance is the multi-stakeholder movement mobilising those with a commitment to and the responsibility for protecting children from this crime, no matter where they live in the world”.
